Spliced Rope

Southern Ropes Pricing

About southern ropes / our pricing

Southern Ropes supplies stocked rope, reels, replacement line and bespoke assemblies. Pricing depends on the rope specification, volume, material and required fabrication. We hold a large UK stock of rope and reels, so standard items are quoted quickly and usually dispatched within one to two working days. Custom assemblies are priced against what you need: the rope, the splicing or terminations, and any certification required.

What to expect

Stocked rope and reels are priced per metre or per reel and we can usually give you a price the same day. Replacement lines and repeat orders are quoted against your existing specification. Bespoke assemblies, specialist constructions and large-diameter rope are quoted once we understand the application, length, terminations and any documentation needed. If you’re not sure which you need, tell us what the rope has to do and we’ll point you to the right option.

How our pricing works

We quote for the rope you’ll actually use. That starts with the rope itself, and where it’s needed, includes how it’s cut, spliced, labelled and documented before it reaches you.

A lower per-metre rate doesn’t always mean a lower final cost. Length, terminations, protective covers, labels and any certificates all affect the price of the finished assembly.

This gives you a clearer basis for comparison: the cost of rope that’s ready to use, not just the cost of raw line.

Key cost drivers

The main factors we use when preparing a quote are:

  • Material specification. Fibre choice has a direct effect on cost. Options may include HMPE or Dyneema-equivalent rope, Polysteel and low-stretch kernmantle, depending on the application.
  • Length, diameter and break load. These requirements determine the rope required and the amount of material used.
  • Fabrication. Hand splices, thimble terminations, protective covers and sleeves are all done in-house at Gosport and priced according to the work involved.
  • Labelling and presentation. Identification requirements, cutting, coiling or reeling can form part of the supply scope.
  • Certification and testing. Tell us if you need test certificates or traceability records and we’ll include them in the quote.
  • Quantity and delivery schedule. How many you need, whether it’s a repeat order and when you need it all affect the price.

A spliced assembly uses more rope than its finished length, because the splice and bury take extra material. That’s worth bearing in mind when comparing a finished assembly against a raw per-metre price.

Orders of every size

We supply customers across marine, fishing, rope access, offshore energy, construction and more. Orders range from a single replacement line to fleet-wide and project supply, and we’re happy to help with either.

Some specialist constructions and extra-large diameter lines are made to order, so there may be a minimum length or quantity. We’ll let you know as soon as we understand what you need.

If you order regularly, we can hold your specification on file so repeat orders are quick to place. For planned volumes, tell us the quantities and timing and we’ll quote accordingly.

Understanding total project cost versus unit price

Unit price is only part of the picture. A lower metre rate can end up costing more once cutting, reeling, splicing, labelling or certification are added.

Before comparing quotes, check whether each supplier has included the same scope. Ask about material, break load, finished and supplied length, splice arrangement, protective cover, labelling, certification, testing and delivery presentation. A quote cannot be compared fairly if these details differ.

Getting the specification right at the quote stage saves time later. It means fewer follow-up calls, no repeat work and the right rope first time.

We can coordinate rope selection, fabrication and documentation as one supply requirement. That reduces the handovers involved in buying separate rope, arranging assembly elsewhere and collecting records afterwards. It also gives your team one point of contact for your quote.

That does not mean the highest-priced option is automatically the right one. It means the right comparison is between like-for-like scopes and the level of assurance your application requires.

Custom fabrication and value-added services

Customisation is part of the service we offer. Splicing, terminations, protective covers, sleeves and labels are priced according to the assembly and the level of work involved. A simple finish is different to a more complex build with a number of steps.

We’ll ask how the rope is going to be used before we quote, so length, terminations and protection are worked out together rather than one at a time.

Southern Ropes operates within an ISO 9001 quality management system and holds BV Mode 2 certification for manufacturing. We also work with associated compliance and documentation requirements where applicable. If you need certification or traceability records, let us know at the enquiry stage so we can price the full scope clearly.

This is designed to avoid uncertainty about what arrives with the equipment. It also helps operations teams retain the records needed for their own checks and handover process.

If you are reviewing splice options, our guide to how to splice rope provides useful background. The final specification should always be based on the intended application.

Helping you find the right rope for your needs

We supply everything from stocked rope, reels and replacement lines to bespoke fabricated assemblies. Our team will work with you to explore the options and find the right rope for your application.

For more specialist requirements, we can discuss rope selection, splicing, fabrication and certification where applicable. We also support repeat orders to help you maintain a dependable supply for your daily operations.

How to request an accurate quote

The more you can tell us, the faster we can quote. It helps to know:

  • The application and operating environment.
  • The required length, diameter and break load.
  • The material or rope type, if already specified.
  • Any required end terminations, splices, thimbles, sleeves, covers, colour or labels.
  • The quantity required and whether this is a one-off or repeat need.
  • Testing, certification, traceability or third-party documentation requirements.
  • The delivery location and required timeframe.

If you do not yet have a complete specification, tell us what the rope needs to do. We can discuss the practical details needed to define the quotation. Speak to Southern Ropes about your system requirements.

Foire aux questions

Do you have a fixed price list?

Some standard stock lines can be priced by metreage. Complete systems are usually quoted against the required length, material, break load, fabrication and documentation. This keeps the quote aligned with the finished requirement.

Are testing and certification documents included in the price?

The answer depends on the system and the records required. We will set out the applicable testing, traceability and certification scope in the quote. Third-party certification requirements can affect the price.

Do you offer bulk or volume discounts?

Quantity is one of the factors considered in commercial pricing. For fleet, project or repeat requirements, provide the anticipated quantities and schedule so we can assess the appropriate commercial structure.

Why might one quote be lower than another?

Quotes may differ in material, rope construction, break load, supplied length, fabrication, protection, documentation and delivery scope. Ask each supplier to confirm these points before making a unit-price comparison.

Can you quote from an existing specification?

Yes. Send the specification, drawing or previous requirement with the application details. We can use it as the starting point for the quotation and identify any information still needed.

Need rope, in stock and specified properly?

Tell the sales team what you’re working on and we’ll recommend the right rope and the right documentation, or use the rope finder to narrow down by sector and fibre.
